White or silver trim edges indicate local yielding, microvoiding, or stress release during cutting. The mark may be limited to the edge or extend into the visible wall.
High residual stress from cold forming makes the part sensitive to even a well-adjusted trim process. Blunt blades, incorrect die clearance, poor support, and excessive compression can create whitening in otherwise sound material.
Corrective action
The part should be inspected before and after trimming. If whitening follows highly stretched regions, the forming process and wall distribution require attention. If it follows every cut regardless of part location, cutting mechanics dominate.
Sharper tools, better support, suitable clearance, and a stable part temperature can reduce deformation. Heating the cut zone may help selected materials and methods, but it must be validated for dimensional accuracy and surface quality rather than applied as a universal fix.
